International Center

The International Center is the focal point for international activities at Cal Poly Pomona. The Center
cooperates with the colleges, individual faculty, Academic Affairs, student groups and other units on
campus. Academic and faculty program initiatives are also encouraged through the Center’s
Faculty Associates and Advisory Council. The Center encourages, assists, administers, and develops
international projects in which Cal Poly Pomona faculty and staff transfer their expertise. They also
take an active role in internationalizing the curriculum by offering faculty opportunities in developing
and implementing overseas educational programs. Furthermore, the Center provides student and
faculty Fulbright advising and information. They are also active in collaboration with Cal Poly
Pomona colleges and schools in recruiting and advising quality international students.

The International Center provides an inviting location for domestic and international students and
scholars to meet, obtain information about overseas study, read about current events in the U.S. and
the world, and share their experiences. The Center also sponsors on and off-campus activities for
international students. Audio-visual and computer equipment are available, as well as a small library
of information related to international education topics. This area is also used for internationally themed events. To promote a feeling of community, the Center includes a student lounge, which is
the focal point for students, staff, and faculty interaction.

International Student and Scholar Services

The International Center leads efforts to recruit international students and provides com prehensive services for students once they are enrolled. International scholars regularly visit Cal Poly Pomona for periods ranging from a few days to several years. The International Student and Scholar Services staff provide the following serivces:

  • Offer orientation for new international students and scholars offering im portant information about university requirements and resources.
  • Coordinate programming throughout the year for the international community, including on-campus activities.
  • Advise international students and scholars with maintaining visa status and provide authorization for internship.

Study Abroad

Cal Poly Pomona students are encouraged to study abroad for a quarter or longer through the International Center’s advisors who assist students to qualify and to arrange for transfer of overseas credits to Cal Poly Pomona. The Center facilitates many different study abroad programs including Cal Poly Pomona curriculum-based programs (short-term), collaborative programs with other institutions (exchange), and CSU International Programs (CSU IP). The International Center works with faculty, colleges and departments to offer Cal Poly Pomona curriculum abroad that can be fully integrated into the curriculum at home. There are various programs in London, China, Ghana, Korea, Italy, France, Greece, Germany, Morocco, and Spain that provide instruction by Cal Poly faculty members while taking advantage of the unique opportunities presented by the particular location.

Students seeking an immersion experience or a longer term abroad may apply for the exchange program or the CSU IP. Cal Poly Pomona has a number of formalized exchange agreements with foreign universities that allow Cal Poly Pomona students to study abroad and international students to come to Cal Poly Pomona. It is the responsibility of the Center to negotiate and administer exchange greements involving student and faculty exchanges, research collaboration, and related activities. Cal Poly Pomona maintains a balance between incoming and outgoing students with each partner institution abroad. Furthermore, the Center serves as the administrator for CSU IP which is offered in 20 countries at Cal Poly Pomona campus fees.

International Visitors

To enrich learning experiences and opportunities, dozens of international scholars are invited to Cal Poly Pomona each year.. The Center may host these scholars directly or assist an individual college or department in hosting responsibilities, including advice on the appropriate visa type for entrance to the USA. In recent years, the Center has also assisted in bringing U.S. public figures and academics as well as international political and intellectual leaders to campus.

Representing Cal Poly Pomona

Staff of the International Center represent Cal Poly Pomona at a number of professional venues and assume leadershi p roles in those organizations. Key organizations include: NAFSA: Association of International Educators, the Association of International Education Administrators, the Fulbright program, and the Consortium for International Development. The Center also partici pates in programs of major Mexican and European international education associations.


This school is authorized under Federal law to enroll nonimmigrant alien students.
