| Polytechnic Approach
As one of only six polytechnic universities nationwide,
Cal Poly Pomona’s hallmark is its learn-by-doing philosophy, directly
stemming from its polytechnic mission. By blending theory and practice
in all its disciplines, the university recognizes that the students
solving classroom problems today will be the employees solving the real-world
problems tomorrow. Students are afforded opportunities to apply their
knowledge in hands-on projects, collaborate with faculty members on
research, and participate in valuable internships and service-learning
programs.
Nationally Ranked Programs
Cal Poly Pomona is ranked as a Top Western Regional
Public University by U.S. News & World Report. Nationally recognized
professors with industry experience teach in more than 60 undergraduate
programs, 20 graduate programs and 13 credentials/certificates in the
university’s seven colleges and one professional school. For more
than 60 years, these programs have earned a strong reputation of academic
excellence, with achievements at regional, national and international
levels.
Flourishing with a diverse campus community, Cal Poly
Pomona is alive with academic, social and volunteer opportunities. Students
may choose to work side-by-side with faculty on research, garner unique
internships, volunteer in community development projects or join any
of the 240 clubs and organizations.
It’s Great to Be a Bronco!
Behind the institutional success that Cal Poly Pomona
enjoys are shining examples of inspiration and personal excellence:
those faculty, staff, students and alumni bringing pride to the university
through their academic and athletic achievements, professional accomplishments
and contributions to society. The university’s athletic teams
boast 13 national championships, including the nationally recognized
women’s basketball program, which won two straight NCAA Division
II championships in 2001 and 2002. Engineering students recently took
the top prize for their formula racecar at an international competition.
In addition, for six consecutive years, the university’s student
delegation has earned major honors at the National Model United Nations
conference. Go Broncos!
Cal Poly Pomona covers 1,438 acres of rolling green
hills and is the second largest in area in The California State University
system. Its location is ideal for so many things, including studying,
social and cultural activities, and recreation. Located less than 30
miles east of downtown Los Angeles, in the heart of sunny Southern California,
Cal Poly Pomona offers the peace and serenity of a small community as
well as the glamour and excitement of a cultural hub. Originally the
winter ranch home of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg, the campus retains
his working Arabian horse ranch alongside rose gardens and avocado groves.
Affordable, Quality Education
In a fast-changing, multicultural world, higher education
is essential in preparing students for lifelong learning, leadership
and careers. Cal Poly Pomona offers a high-quality education at a much
lower cost than that of comparable institutions. For a California resident
attending full time, yearly fees are approximately $2,500, and books
and supplies average $1,250 per year. University of California students
pay more than twice as much, while students at private universities
could pay more than $18,000 per year.
