Working with PDF files

Viewing PDF files differs from accessing .html files. Selecting an .html file while browsing takes one directly to the file, or page, one wishes to view and the file is displayed according to the dicates of the hypertext data. When one uses available software to speed the production of an .html document, however, it becomes difficult to maintain the placement and indeed the transfer of items such as mathematical symbols and drawings.

A PDF file, on the other hand, is a virtual photograph of the original document created in a more versatile word-processing program and therefore is quickly downloaded and available for printing.

NOTE: PDF files, when selected, are downloaded behind the scenes and the file icon will appear on your desktop. To open these files you will need Adobe's Acrobat Reader, which is a free application that is widely distributed. Both Mac and Windows versions are available for downloading (free) at Adobe's site.
