Step 2: Applying for educational benefits

The process of receiving your veteran educational benefits involves a few steps, and the certifying officials in the Registrar’s Office are happy to assist you. It is important that you review the terms of your veterans educational benefits. This is especially important as there have been many changes from the former Montgomery GI Bill to the new Post-9/11 GI Bill.

After you have reviewed the terms of your benefits, you will apply for educational benefits through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs through the GI Bill website.

If you have previously received VA benefits at another school, you need to complete Form 22-1995: Request for Change of Program or Place of Training through the GI Bill website or you may contact Cal Poly Pomona’s certifying official to complete a paper copy of this form and the additional required paperwork to establish your benefits at Cal Poly Pomona.

If you have not yet established or used VA Education benefits, you should complete VA Form 22-1990: Application for VA Educational Benefits. This form is available online at Veterans On-line Application (VONAPP) or Fill-in and printable PDF. If you choose the printable application, the application must be sent to:
