Charges for Working Groups

Academic Support and Advising

Liaison to the Executive Group: Dr. Donald Straney

Charge:

  • Identify unique issues for veterans to obtain transfer credit/articulation of previously completed coursework or military related experience. Identify unique issues for veterans to receive appropriate academic support and counseling services to facilitate graduation and increase persistence.
  • Develop faculty development/training recommendations to prepare faculty for returning veterans and any unique challenges, in and out of the classroom.

Admissions and Pre-Enrollment

Liaison to the Executive Group: Ms. Deborah Brandon

Charge:

  • Develop a recruitment strategy that positions Cal Poly Pomona as a desirable higher education destination for veterans and their dependents
  • Identify veteran populations for targeted recruitment, whose technical training and experience match Cal Poly Pomona’s unique degree programs.
  • Identify unique admission and enrollment challenges that veterans face and develop recommendations for improved responsiveness.
  • Develop a recruitment strategy to establish an effective presence at education offices on military bases.

Enrollment Services

Liasion to the Exective Group: Ms. Kathy Street

Charge:

  • Develop a comprehensive web site targeted specifically for veteran’s services at Cal Poly Pomona.
  • Identify any additional unique challenges to veterans as they initially matriculate to the campus, including financial aid, orientation, and/or first time registration.
  • Review and recommend any needed changes to enrollment related policies and procedures (e.g., registration, leave of absence, financial aid, fee payment, etc.) at Cal Poly Pomona and ensure they are responsive to the unique situations/needs of veterans and any CSU policies/executive orders for veterans.

Resource Development

Liaison to the Executive Group: Mr. Doug Glaeser

Charge:

  • Develop a prospect list for veteran specific development efforts, including obtaining external funding from individual donors, corporations, foundations, and state and federal agencies.
  • Conduct comprehensive research to identify available external grants and resources that would assist the campus with providing targeted services to veterans.

Support Services

Liaison to the Executive Group: Ms. Sunny Lee

Charge:

  • Identify unique student services for veterans and develop a strategy for providing them.
  • Develop a strategy for regular communication to enrolled veterans and dependents about veteran’s specific programs and services. Develop a referral resource guide to assist veterans with campus and off-campus services, including liaison services, health benefits, and advisement.
  • Develop an education strategy to sensitize the campus community regarding the unique circumstances and particular needs of veterans and their dependents. Increase participation in campus observances of veteran events, celebrations and recognitions
