AT RISK
Cal Poly Grade Point Average Below 2.2.
An undergraduate student with a Cal Poly Pomona GPA (not “overall” GPA) that is below 2.2 will have an advising hold placed on his/her record. This hold blocks registration until academic advisement is received and the advisor or department removes the hold.

PROBATION
GPA Below 2.0
An undergraduate student with an overall or Cal Poly Pomona grade point average below 2.0 will have an advising hold placed on his/her record. This hold blocks registration until advisement is received and the advisor or department removes the hold. Academic departments may also place an advising hold on a student’s record if his/her major core grade point average is below 2.0.

Subject to Disqualification
An undergraduate student will be subject to disqualification if the Cal Poly Pomona or an overall grade point average falls below 1.5 for freshmen, 1.7 for sophomores, 1.9 for juniors, and 1.95 for seniors. An undergraduate student may be subject to a disqualification status due to lack of adherence to advisement worksheet, failure to make progress in the major, or follow faculty advisement

ACADEMIC DISQUALIFICATION - UNDERGRADUATE
Academic disqualification occurs automatically when the grade point deficit reaches the levels specified in the table below. Whether reinstated after at least one quarter has elapsed or attending because of an approved appeal, a student must remove the initial disqualification status by the time 24 advisor-approved baccalaureate level units have been completed.

Grade Point Balance Determines Disqualification
A student will be disqualified if the “All College” or “Cal Poly, Pomona” total grade points fall to the deficiency level noted below:

  Units Probation Subject to
Disqualification
Disqualification
Freshman <45 <2.0 1.5 -22.5 grade points
Sophomore 45-89 <2.0 1.7 -22.5 grade points
Junior 90-134 <2.0 1.9 -13.5 grade points
Senior >135 <2.0 1.95 -9.0 grade points

Appealing the Sit-Out Period
Undergraduate students have the right to appeal the mandatory sit-out quarter, which is a consequence of disqualification. The student must complete the Disqualification Appeal Student Information Sheet available in the Registrar's Office. Except in extraordinary circumstances, appeals will be considered only if the student's grade point balance, during the quarter subsequent to disqualification, has improved enough to fully remove the student from disqualification status. Students will be notified via email of their College’s Appeals Committee decision no later than the last day to register for the quarter in question.

Reinstatement
Upon initial disqualification, students may be reinstated only after presentation to the university of satisfactory evidence that they have improved their chances of scholastic success. Students seeking reinstatement after initial disqualification must file a Reinstatement Petition in the Registrar’s Office

SUBSEQUENT DISQUALIFICATION
In either subsequent disqualification situation described below, the student is academically disqualified and must take a mandatory one-year break (four quarters). There is no appeal and readmission is not guaranteed.

  1. 24 Units Following Initial Disqualification
Undergraduates who have been academically reinstated, or who have successfully appealed their "sit-out" quarter, must improve from the category of Disqualification by the time they have completed 24 advisor-approved baccalaureate level units at Cal Poly Pomona. Failure to leave the category of Disqualification within the 24-unit limit means that students must leave the university for at least four quarters.
  2. Academic Disqualification [Subsequent Occurrences]
Undergraduate students who attain probationary status or good standing, and then become disqualified again, must leave the university for at least four quarters. It is possible that such students will not have finished 24 units.

Graduate Academic Standing
Master's degree students and certificate/credential or 3100 students will be automatically disqualified at the end of any quarter if they are 9 or more grade points below a 3.0 GPA. Students may petition through their respective graduate coordinators and/or department chairs to the Associate Vice President for Academic Programs for a reinstatement under exceptional circumstances.
