Student Resources

Advising: Internships

The TOM Department offers a practical curriculum that meets both the desires of the students and the needs of employers. The variety and depth of learning available to students and the richness of practical experience offered by the TOM faculty work together to give our program recognition from many professional organizations and the business community in general.

Because of our close ties with industry, the TOM Department is able to readily adapt its curriculum to changing job requirements. By applying our polytechnic, or learn-by-doing, philosophy throughout our curriculum, TOM students learn both the principles and application of Operations Management, Management of Technology, and Productions Management. We believe this combination of theory and practice gives TOM students a distinct advantage when looking for a job and makes them ideal candidates for an internship.

Although student internship programs are not unique to the TOM Department, we do place an extraordinary emphasis on work experience programs. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in both theory and problem solving that will prepare them for an exciting career in the fast-paced field of computer information systems.

Intern students can be hired at any time of the year. Since Cal Poly Pomona is on a quarter system, the preferred employment starting dates coincide with the beginning of a quarter-September, January, March or June.

Internship Packets and Paperwork can be found under the Forms subsection. For additional information please contact an Advisor or come into the department office at 94-203.
