Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the TOM Department Located?
The TOM Department is located at building 94 room 203.

How do I contact the TOM Department?
The TOM Department can be reached at 909-869-2453.

How do I drop a course?
For the first 15 class days of the quarter, you can drop classes by telephone or BroncoDirect. After that, the College of Business requires that you must petition to drop a course. Petitions are only accepted for students who have 'serious and compelling difficulties' that would prevent them from completing a course. Neither failing a class, nor changes in work schedule are considered compelling reasons to drop classes.

How do I plan my courses?
Every student’s course plan is different. A good rule of thumb, however, is to take a mixture of TOM courses, Business Core courses, and General Education, and elective courses in any given quarter. This makes for a well-rounded schedule, and a more balanced work-load. Careful attention must be paid to prerequisite requirements in coursework. A four-year plan for students who start as freshmen, and a flow chart of the CIS core, are available under the curriculum link. Students also need to be realistic about how many courses they can carry in a given quarter. Good grades from 12 units are better than mediocre grades with 16 units.

What courses do I need to register for TOM460?
Students must complete: TOM301, TOM302, TOM315, TOM332, TOM401, and 3 TOM Directed Electives.

What courses do I need to register for TOM461/462/463?
Students must complete their Senior Project Proposal and pass TOM463. A override ticket must be obtained from the department secretary during the first of the the next quarter only.

Do I have to take TOM461/462/463 together? How long does the Senior Project take?
All 3 classes have to be taken together. The Senior Project is complete when your advisor says its complete.

What are the Math Requirements?
The minimum math requirement for a CIS major is completion of STA 120, with a grade of ‘C’ or better. A second college-level math course is also a support requirement of certain tracks.

What is my diploma going to say?
"Bachelor of Science, Business Administration, Concentration: Technology & Operations Management"

How many units do I need to walk?
Currently, a student who has passed the Graduation Writing Test, and has no more than 8 units remaining to graduate, may participate in June Commencement ceremonies. (walking) This policy is subject to change from year to year.
