Cyber Security Fair Focuses on "Wellness for Your Computer and Identity"
Over 800 people from the campus community attended Cyber Security Fair - 2005, "Wellness for Your Computer and Identity," on Thursday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Fair was held in the Bronco Student Center's Ursa Major Suite. While the Cyber Security Fair is a distinct event, it was held along with the Health Wellness Fair. Both events benefited by combining in a larger venue, each event with similar themes.
This Cyber Fair event was held in conjunction with the National Cyber Security Awareness month. This years theme for the Cyber Security Awareness Month is identify theft.
Session notes are available.
The event was presented by the Cal Poly Pomona Title V funded project: “Improving Access to Information Systems at Hispanic- Serving Institutions, a Cooperative Arrangement." The participating institutions first came together, as a member of a national, 35-college consortium, called Advanced Networking for Minority Serving Institutions (AN-MSI) that meets to collaborate on how Information Systems (computers, network, staff) can best support the academic programs, institutional management and fiscal stability of minority-serving institutions and their students. These institutions discovered a common set of problems that are seriously threatened their ability to provide their constituencies with secure and reliable technology resources. This grant seeks to address those issues. This event fulfills the grant requirement to host a yearly security awareness event.
Major exhibiters include: Apple, CheckPoint/ZoneLabs, ISSA, LA County Sheriff’s Department, Microsoft, and QuickStart Intelligence.
