Grading & Other Policies

Exams: You are responsible for all materials covered in lectures, discussions, and readings. Your answers on both exams must be typed and conform to the listed length and form limits. Exams will consist of essays and are completed outside of class.

If you have any questions regarding your grade on an exam, you must consult with me within a week of when it is returned. There will be NO MAKE-UP EXAMS given except by previous consent of the instructor and with an approved excuse. If you are unexpectedly prevented from handing in the exam, you MUST make contact with the professor within 24 hours of when the exam was due.

Participation: Class attendance and active participation (asking and answering questions, discussing news, etc.) are expected.

Grading:
Midterm exam - 20%
Final exam - 20%
Weekly reading notes - 15%
Report/website - 20% & presentation- 10%
Participation - 15%

Course grades are based on the following percentages:
90+ earns an A
80-89 earns a B
70-79 earns a C
60-69 earns a D
59 and lower results in an F

Cheating and plagiarism:
You are required to do all work yourself and to properly reference any material that you use from other sources. Do NOT copy another student's work. Do NOT copy something from any other source without a complete reference to it. If you do either of these, you will receive zero (0) points for the assignment and you will probably receive a grade of 'F' for the course. Refer to the current university catalog for more information on the disciplinary actions that can result from cheating, plagiarism and other academic offenses.
The website: http://www.sofweb.vic.edu.au/internet/research.htm is recommended when using internet sources because it has tips on how to avoid electronic plagiarism.
