Throughout "Handling Charges", Jeff is very ill. He has some form of a very serious disease. It seems like a struggle for the mother. She seems like she would be a very sad women, embarrassed by her son. It seems as though she is either ashamed for him or afraid for herself that others may look at her differently because of her son. I feel that the significance of the black horse symbolizes Jeff. The horse is dark and sticks out from all of the others. Black also symbolizes death. I think the significance may be in some manner a wake up call that his future is planned for him and this disease has the power to take his life. It also seems like an opening of freedom for Jeff, getting to chose. I find it very interesting that he would pick the black horse. I think that it is his fate.
