The point of view was from the young girl who was attempting to save the life of her guinea pig. Having lost several in the last few years she became determined to save the life of this animal more for the victory of spite rather than true love for the animal. In the end when asked as to why she had spent so much time and money on a furry rat she responded that she did it for love. This was not really the case; rather she wanted the pig to live for her. She also stated that she never in her entire life thought that she would be watching the evening news holding a small rodent in her lap.
