That was a good analysis. The wooden horse goes around without having anybody realizing who he is. It resemble to Jeff who is unaware of what is going on with him. He is a child who tries to live a normal live and the mother is providing that. Jeff might be identified with the horse because they are both normal inside but to the rest of the world, they are, as you said, the black sheep or in this case, the black horse.
