Seminar Requirements

As a seminar, our class can only work effectively if all participants read all of the assigned readings and participate in other required events. You must come prepared to discuss course readings, videos, filed trips, cultural events.  Written/typed reflections (one page) to course readings, videos, and activities will be assigned during the quarter. The reflections must include at least two of the following:

1.

Question (s) which the readings, videos, and/or activities have raised for you;

2.

Critical reactions to point(s) raised in the readings, videos, and activities with which you disagree;

3.

Striking quotations/insights with which you wholeheartedly agree (explain why you think they are important);

4.

Reflections on how the readings, videos, and/or activities /insights connect to your own experiences or other readings you have done.

The purpose of this exercise is to encourage engagement with readings as well as to help members of the class (individually or collectively) explore feelings, ideas, and opinions about a variety of topics. I recommend that you write your comments, questions, observations and criticisms immediately after completing your readings, videos, and activities to facilitate rich class discussions.
