WHO AM I?

Due October 18

You are to write a three-page autobiography.  Tell who you are.  Include the formation of your identification--race, ethnicity, gender, and/or class.  What is/are your predominant cultural orientation(s).  Were you born in this country?  Were your parents born in this country?  If not, what cultural traditions have you/they maintained from your/their homelands?   What cultural patterns have you recognized in your family?  How do you identify yourself?

Your paper must have an introduction and a conclusion.  The introduction is to give the importance of writing your autobiography.  Do not begin this paper with your date of birth, place of birth, time of birth, etc., i.e., I was born on August 10, 1983 in Los Angeles, California.  Your paper also must have a conclusion.   Include one citation and reference about your cultural/ethnic group.

Questions to Consider

Who/What is “American” and who/what is “ethnic?”

How important is race/ethnicity for you in your daily life?

To what extent do these concepts affect the way you experience and live your life?

Is there another social and/or self-identification marker (e.g., gender, class, disability, age, marital status) that has more of an effect on the way you experience your life?

WHO ARE WE?
