Additional Questions
Yes, the campus will be open throughout the summer. However, to reduce Cal Poly Pomona's carbon footprint and energy costs, the university will observe a 4/10 work schedule during the summer, from June 15 to Aug. 28. The university will return to its regular schedule on Monday, Aug. 31.
During the 4/10 work schedule, the campus will be open Mondays through Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m and will be closed on Fridays.
There are two weeks during the summer when the campus will follow the regular five-day work schedule. From June 29 to July 3, employees will work eight hours Monday through Thursday and observe the Independence Day holiday on Friday. During the week of July 27 to 31, employees will work eight hours Monday through Friday.
You have the option of enrolling as a regularly admitted student through Extended University. If you chose not to enroll through Extended University for the summer, you do not need to reapply for admissions and will be eligible to enroll for the fall 2009 quarter through BroncoDirect beginning August 10th through August 13th. Your Enrollment Confirmation Deposit will be applied to the fall quarter.
No, you are only required to attend orientation once.
Yes, attendance is mandatory for all entering freshmen and transfers. All orientation sessions (including PolyNights and the Parent Orientation Programs) will be available as scheduled. Advising and registration for fall quarter enrollment will be provided during the sessions.
Cal Poly Pomona's College of the Extended University designs and delivers a wide variety of educational programs to its many constituencies. The College of the Extended University serves as a vehicle for building partnerships and collaborative relationships through community involvement, economic development, resource development and program development with business and industry. Extended University delivers programs to a wide community that extends from our own campus in Pomona, to local and national audiences, and to new expanding international venues.
Open University is one of the programs offered through Extended University and offers the opportunity to take regular academic courses offered at Cal Poly Pomona with or without formal admission to the university. This summer, many of the classes recently cancelled will be offered through Open University. Because the University does not receive state funding to support enrollment in these courses, fees are $220 per lecture unit and $280 per lab unit instead of the established Cal Poly Pomona fees.
The courses you take will be posted to your Cal Poly Pomona transcript.
Yes. We are working to process automatic refunds as quickly as possible. You do not have to take action for a refund at this time.
No. You no longer have to pay those fees.
Yes. Please take your permit and Bronco ID to the Cashier’s Office for a refund.
No, you do not need to take any action. The University will cancel all classes and enrollment. These courses will not appear on your transcript.
No change was made for your fall course registrations and you may check your fall class schedule through BroncoDirect. The next opportunity to add or drop courses for fall will begin August 10th through August 13th.
Because the campus is not offering classes this summer, you will continue as an active student by attending the fall 2009 quarter.
Decisions about summer classes are being made by each campus. Please contact the campus you are interested in attending.
The University will make an exception in this situation and will not require you to enroll in a Project/Thesis Continuation (699) class in the summer.
You may be able to enroll in the course in the summer through Extended University. If it is not available or if you chose not to attend Extended University, you will need to register for the pre-requisite before you can take the course you planned to take in the fall. If you are unable to take the pre-requisite, you will need to drop your fall course during the August Schedule Adjustment Period or the Add/Drop period. *UPDATE* Students in these situations may also speak with their faculty adviser or department chair to explore any possible options.
*NEW* I was signed up for an internship class (or co-op class). My employer requires me to take the class. What does this mean?
You can still participate in the internship. Your class will be offered through the Extended University. You can also try to make special arrangements with your employer.
*NEW* I was signed up for an independent study or a research/project/thesis class. Is there an exception for these types of classes?
All of these courses will be offered through the Extended University.
The Registrar’s Office will provide information about dates, the process and fee schedule as information becomes available.
The campus hopes to offer most of the courses that were recently cancelled and is developing the course schedule. The complete schedule will be available June 29.
Students who were previously registered in summer will be given priority registration on July 1 and 2. Registration for all students will be open July 6 through July 9.
Students may pay fees once their fees are available through Bronco Direct. For the students registering on July 1 or July 2, fees will be available the day following registration. For students registering July 6 through 9, fees may be paid when fees are posted (approximately 3 hours after registration). All fees must be paid by July 9th or enrollment will be cancelled.
Yes, a financial hold will be placed on your student account for any balance due the University. To be able to register through Extended University for the summer, you will need to pay your account in full, and your financial hold will be released. You may pay online or go to the Cashier’s Office during business hours to settle your account. If you pay online, you must contact the Cashier’s Office during regular business hours to remove the financial hold.

Student loan repayments do not begin until 6 months after your last date of enrollment. If you have not been enrolled for more than 6 months, you will need to contact your lender for repayment options.
Yes, we will still accept the cross enrollment form for summer. You still need to be enrolled in at least 6 Cal Poly Pomona units to be eligible for funds through cross enrollment. Regularly admitted Cal Poly Pomona students will be able to have Extended University units count towards the required 6 Cal Poly Pomona units.
To be eligible for loan funds, students must be enrolled at least half-time, which means 6 units for undergraduate students and 4 units for graduate students. Pell Grant eligibility is based on the number of enrolled units (at least 1) and the EFC.
Contact your academic department during regular business hours. See the information above regarding the 4/10 schedule for summer.
Reinstatements for summer will be deferred to the fall 2009 quarter.
*UPDATED* Appeals submitted at the end of spring quarter to attend summer quarter will be evaluated. Students' next quarter of attendance will be deferred to the fall 2009 quarter.
*UPDATED* You should contact the academic department that offers the class to make an agreement on how to complete the class requirements. The offering of a class is not necessary to finish an incomplete.
*NEW* Will grades received for Cal Poly Pomona courses taken through the College of Extended University be counted towards my GPA? *
Yes, grades received in CPP courses taken through the College of Extended University (CEU) will be counted toward your Cal Poly Pomona and cumulative GPA.
Please contact the Athletics Department at (909) 869-2810.
You may consult the Department Chair of your major for possible options that may enable you to complete your degree requirements in the summer.
If you have not already applied, you may apply for Summer 09 graduation in BroncoDirect from July 13 through Aug. 6.
Please contact the International Center at (909) 869-3267 for advising.
*UPDATE* The Early Start Program will still be offered this summer. If you are enrolled in remedial math, remedial English and/or CPU 100, your classes will not be cancelled. Please note that any other class in which you are enrolled for summer will be cancelled. If you have other questions, please contact Sheryl at sesantiaguel@csupomona.edu or (909) 869-3816.
You should consider enrolling in your remedial coursework through Extended University. If you choose not to enroll through Extended University, the University will extend your remediation timetable through end of the fall 2009 quarter. Make sure that you enroll in the required remedial classes in the fall to avoid being placed on an Administrative Leave of Absence.
Courses offered through Summer Study Abroad will still be available. Check with your department/college for specific information.
Yes, the Summer Bridge Program is still being offered this summer. If you have received confirmation from Student Support and Equity Programs that you have been accepted to participate in Summer Bridge, you will be expected to arrive on campus June 28, 2009. If you have other questions regarding Summer Bridge, please contact Vicki Calderon at vvcalderon@cuspomona.edu or (909) 869-3369.
To be able to work as a student assistant this summer, you will either:
This should not impact students in the four-year degree program. Students must successfully complete 25% of their required units per year to ensure meeting the minimum graduation requirements. The required number of units per year must be completed in Fall, Winter, and spring. Coursework completed in the summer will be applied to the next academic year.
This should not have any impact related to the four-year degree program.
Yes, the GWT, MDPT, MCP, and all other regularly scheduled test will continue to be administered.

Yes, you will be eligible to enroll for fall. Students who do not enroll for three consecutive quarters must reapply for admission to the university. Since the University is not offering a state-funded summer quarter, the fall quarter (not the summer quarter) counts as the third quarter for this year.
Students who have reached the maximum may petition to increase the number of units transferred. Decisions on petitions will be made on a case-by-case basis.
If you enroll in the Extended University in the appropriate course, you may submit a petition to waive the residency requirement.
