The All-Steinway School Initiative is a special opportunity for you to honor a family member, loved one, company or your own legacy by naming one of our music facilities. Naming is one of the highest acknowledgements on Cal Poly Pomona's campus bestowed upon donors whose investments have a transformative impact on the university, and whose commitment to education leaves a legacy for generations to come.

MUSIC DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Cal Poly Pomona Music Department is to encourage all students to realize their highest artistic, musical, academic and professional potential. We prepare individuals for a variety of careers in music, including teaching, business and performance. We provide courses in support of teacher education and General Education courses.

REHEARSAL ROOMS (2)*

Our rehearsal rooms range from a 90-seat classroom to one-on-one coaching rooms, with emphasis on developing artistry through performance. These rooms accommodate a wide range of rehearsals, lectures, master classes and other special events.

PIANO ROOM*

The Piano Room is where one-on-one instruction occurs with students who study piano performance. This room features two grand pianos to facilitate private teaching.

RECORDING STUDIO*

The Recording Studio is the focal point of the Audio Technology program emphasis. Here, students take on roles throughout the recording process including artist, engineer, producer or another ancillary role.

The Student Lounge is an open, high-traffic space in the middle of the music building where students congregate for impromptu practice and rehearsal sessions that help foster music collaborations and inspire new ideas.

LECTURE & METHODOLGY CLASSROOM*

Our primary classroom hosts a wide variety of classes and ensembles, ranging from general education classes to choral and chamber ensembles. We also utilize the room for a select number of intimate performances and master classes.

The Practice Rooms are open to the entire student body and provide a private space for piano practice and artistic development.

The Department Chair suite includes the office of the Music Chair and office of the department’s administrative support coordinator.

PERFORMANCE LITERATURE LIBRARY

The Performance Literature Library contains four large and several small ensemble libraries of published music for ensemble rehearsal and performance. The four large collections are: choral, concert band, jazz band and orchestra. Smaller ensemble libraries include string, woodwind, brass, percussion, and pedagogy libraries.

Staff/faculty offices provide excellent naming opportunities for individuals and corporations. Offices are clustered together and share common work space.

Recital Hall

RECITAL HALL NAME

Our music program’s centerpiece, the Music Recital Hall, seats 172 and hosts approximately 70 student, faculty and guest artist concerts and performances throughout the year.

The Recital Hall Foyer is the main entrance to the Music Recital Hall and is a high-traffic area that connects to the music building.

The Recital Hall Box Office manages the ticket sales and publicity for all music performances throughout the year.

Steinway Pianos

THE STEINWAY AT KELLOGG HOUSE POMONA

Kellogg House Pomona was W.K. Kellogg’s winter home. Today, the house serves the premiere location for the university President’s events and other intimate gatherings. Constructed in 1926, Kellogg House Pomona has been renovated to look as it did when it was built. The addition of a Steinway piano will add to its already rich prestige.

CONCERT GRANDS
(1 restored, 1 new)

The concert grands will be showcased on the Music Recital Hall stage and will be the premiere pianos for student, faculty and guest artist performances.

UPRIGHT & GRAND PIANOS (several)

The uprights will be used by students in our practice rooms and the grands will be placed in our rehearsal rooms, teaching studios and classrooms. Piano sponsorship includes the costs of a care and maintenance fund.
