Answers

Can I make a web page for my course?

Sorry, not yet. Spinneret expects to put all is pages in a single folder, and there's not yet a way to target subfolders of your user folder (we're expecting that enhancement in late Spring 2008). You could integrate your course pages into your home page, but unless your course pages are very simple, this won't be a good solution.

Also, please consider using Blackboard for course pages.

Can I make my web page somewhere other than the Intranet?

Sorry, Spinneret is designed to work with the specific file access of the Intranet. When the Intranet is replaced with a new web platform, Spinneret will be modified to work with it, but there are simply too many different kinds of systems to make it fit them all.

What if I already have web pages?

Spinneret will not replace existing pages. If they have the same names and URLs as pages created by Spinneret, it will rename them, and it will always rename a page called index.htm, index.shtm, index.html, or index.shtml, to make sure that the new site home page will work properly. You can easily copy content from your old web pages and paste into your new through Contribute. Sometimes it may not be easy to find the renamed old pages, but they will always have a name in the form of sp_old-oldname.html.

The banner graphics are stupid. Can I use my own?

Of course! Just choose "Upload Your Own Header" from the Header/Footer tab.

Why can't I use a different template style, or my own design?

Spinneret is intended to make site creation easy. Once you've moved to different template styles or you own site design, you've left the world of "easy" and should be using Dreamweaver or another professional web design program.

Can I edit the site with Dreamweaver?

Yes, but be sure you edit editable regions only, and don't try to add new pages through Dreamweaver, only through Spinneret.

Can I edit the site with Front Page?

No.

Contribute won't let me use all kinds of different fonts and font sizes, and it forces me to enter alternate text for all my photos. Can I fix this?

Yes, but you'll need detailed knowledge of Contribute, which we won't provide. All of these things that it forces you to do are to make sure that your page is accessible to people with disabilities by being compliant with Sect. 508, this is both a State Law and a CSU requirement.

Will you ever have any more away links?

Certainly! We wanted to provide a lot of the common ones, but we plan to continually add new ones.
