WEEK 3 Interorganizational Context of Public Administration

Denhart - Chapter 3

Quiz on materials covered in week 1 and 2.

1. Origins of federalism can be found in the U. S. Constitution. The constitution provides for both horizontal federalism (scroll down and review Article 4) and vertical federalism in Amendment 10. You may want to revisit the chapter on Federalism in your PLS 201 text.

2. Much of the tension in the relationship between the federal and state governments revolves around issues of money. For more information on how money plays as a key role in the debate between the federal and state governments visit the U.S. Federalism Web Site and review the section on "implementation".

3. Denhart's discussion is the traditional view of federalism and intergovernmental relations. My view is somewhat different. It is less about cakes and picket fences and more about bacon and eggs and eyeglasses.

Bacon = national government

Eggs= State and Local

New Federalism-

The lens are the federal and state governments and the frames are local governments
