READINGS Descriptive Statistics - See Trochim Chapter 10 pages 270 to 272. Whether you are doing qualitative or quantitative analysis you will need to describe your population and summarize norms of that sample population. Inferential Statistics Interval/ratio, parametric, continuous level of measurement is used. See correlation Trochim 272-279. Discussion of linear regression. Here you are seeing the influence of one variable (interval/ratio) on another (interval/ratio) variable. Ordinal Data Correlation and Analysis- We will discuss how ordinal data is analyzed. DO NOT PANIC! This hypertext connection is to provide you with an overview and to serve as a basis for class discussion. Nominal Data Correlation and Analysis- This Georgetown Linguistics
"Web
Chi Square Calculator" is a fun application of an inferential
statistic used with nominal data. We will play with it a bit in class.
Testing Hypothesis- See on-line "Paired Student's t-Test. This will be demoed in class. This is actually fun. Summary Sheet: Can't remember which statistic is used for what level of measurement, think your head is about to explode-- then visit Dr. J. Ostrow's very helpful summary chart at CSU Long Beach. PROJECT- Fine tune data collection plans, instruments and methodologies. Please carefully review outlines for your final papers. Make sure you have sufficient subheadings so that a reader can follow your design plan and your logic of why this plan will work and how data will be analyzed. This is necessary for both qualitative and quantitative approaches. EXERCISES- No exercises for this week. |
