Week 8

READINGS

Please read all of "Part II: Staff training for focus group discussions" prepared by the University of the United Nation's Press. This is a concise description of the preparation, implementation and analysis of focus group data. Review Sections 1 through 6 and sections 7 through 14.

PROJECT

Prepare a draft of your data collection instruments. E.g. questionnaire, survey, interview guide, focus group implementation plan, content analysis spreadsheet and/or your secondary data analysis plans. IF you intend to use secondary data please make sure you have an example or sample of the data and can describe how this data is used in your analysis.

IF you are approaching this from a quantitative perspective be sure you can link your instrument back to the independent, dependent and confounding variables. IF you are approaching this from a qualitative perspective be sure you can link your instrument back to your logic for using a qualitative approach, your grand tour and subsidiary questions.

EXERCISE

There is no exercise to prepare and submit prior to class. However, please bring a copy of the review form for our analysis of Peter Hart's "Road to the White House" focus group in Missouri.
