Suggestions
- Briefly state the problem.
Do not go into detail. We covered much of this territory in weeks 1
and 2.
- Core task at this point
is to link literature to research.
- QUANTITATIVE RESEARCHERS
provide a clear link between literature and what is known about
your dependent variable. Identify what theories or models are prevalent
in the literature and where and how they agree and disagree. Also
indicate the methodological approach taken and how your approach
will contribute to a better understanding of the issues. What is
core here is linking literature to independent and dependent variables
and to methodology. Go beyond texts for the course in addressing
these issues.
- QUALITATIVE RESEARCHERS
provide a clear statement of the core theories in the disciplines
necessary to explore this area. For example how might social psychology
or communication theory inform your study. Also make a case from
the literature as to the appropriate design or methodology and the
need for a qualitative approach. Go beyond texts for course in addressing
these issues.
- Describe what you as the
researcher are going to do.
QUANTITATIVE RESEARCHERS
focus in on sampling, instruments and issues of validity. Review Trochim
outline and that of Parker for QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH. If you have
a preliminary instrument please include.
QUALITATIVE RESEARCHERS
focus in on site selection, access, role, plan for interacting or
testing the environment. Review exercise for Week 5.
- Identify clearly and concisely
as possible what your research design is and what in the literature
suggests that this design if most appropriate for your research question
or issue.
