Welcome!
As a faculty at Cal Poly Pomona I've enjoyed access to Intranet
services although sometimes things have taken help and time
to figure out. My goal for these pages is to be of assistance
to peer colleagues. Please feel free to call on me for help
at any time.
Setting Permissions on Cal Poly Pomona Intranet Files
- The Cal Poly Intranet is an ingenious invention allowing
security and features not widely available on the Internet.
User instructions for establishing and maintaining accounts
are available through the Intranet
Users Guide. This particular commentary aims to provide
guidance to new users of the system. Tips and hints here are
relevant to student and faculty users establishing new accounts..
The clear and specific advice for those interested in providing
advanced CGI resources may be particularly helpful.
The Colors of Cal Poly Pomona - resources for web
authors wanting to adopt university standards regarding graphics,
and in particular the harmonious definition of colors and
shades featured in print publications and on offical Cal Poly
Pomnona pages.
Forum Software - Craig Rich has made it very easy
for faculty to install the WWWboard in their home directories
for class conferencing. This has been used extensively by
many faculty. Kenny Gardner of Gap Development has developed
a version of HyperBBS tailored for our Intranet. This option
has many features which faculty may want to explore. Faculty
can quickly develop multiple forums and access them directly
and uniquely through links from other site pages. All graphics
and presentation are customizable. Code is available for non-commercial
purposes to any faculty member who chooses to use it. The
link to the left will take you to an inventory of current
forums.

Pier Beatrizotti's Brain Test
- As a senior project, this student developed a fine example
of on-line assessment test where page viewers receive immediate
score processing and are directed to self-learning material.
Here javascript requiring capable browsers is integrated with
database server storage of results for research analysis.
Non-HTML Student Pages - I've found a CGI script
which is very flexible in providing students an opportunity
to complete forms and produce home pages or shared assignments.
All pages reside in a searchable database rather than having
unique URL addresses. Students may edit and revise their pages
at any time without any knowledge of HTML.I'm not currently
using this cgi, but if you're interested, please contact me.
CGIemail Forms - Web developers
often want to use forms where student inputs can be saved
to a database and later downloaded for analysis and research
or data processing. Several cgi solutions exist for such purposes.
CGIemail is one of the most standard such applications and
this version has been tailored for use with Cal Poly Pomona
intranet permission standards. In addition to parsing and
storing form data, this cgi is flexible in a variey of emailing
and forwarding options for redirecting form users. It's yours
for free, and I'd be happy to help you set it up at CPP.
