This conventional transmission electron micrograph of an exceedingly thin section of an insect ovum shows bacteroids enmeshed in microvilli. The dark rod-shaped and elliptical bodies are bacteroids. The clear circular and oblong bodies are cross sections and longitudinal sections of microvilli. Microvilli are extensions of the ovarian membrane.
