The Year of the Dream Machine

1990 was the 35th Anniverary of Disneyland. To celebrate, Disneyland gave away lots of prizes including one Chevrolet Geo every day. The bigger prizes were given away at the Dream Machine--a gigantic cake located at the plaza set up like a slot machine. One person out of every 135 who entered the park each day got a ticket to try their luck at the Dream Machine.

Our Story: June 12

On June 12, Phil and Sarah went to Disneyland to ride on Splash Mountain. We did not get a "Dream Machine Ticket" as we went through the turnstile. However, while walking past the Golden Horseshoe Saloon, Phil found a Dream Machine ticket on the ground!!! We decided to go see if it was valid and if someone had lost one. We also agreed that if we won the car it would be half Sarah's. When we got to the Dream Machine they told us it was valid and it was ours. The host at the Dream Machine was Mark Wahlberg, who later became host of the Mark Wahlberg talkshow.

After being interviewed on stage, Sarah pulled the lever. Then everything happened...Mickey Mouse showed up dancing around. Confetti flew everywhere, and a brand new, red Geo Tracker came up out of the birthday cake. It was very exciting and we will never forget that night.

Next we had to call home and tell everyone. At first no one believed us...but we convinced them it was true.

Anyway...it was a lot of fun. On November 5, 1990 we picked up our new 1991 Geo Tracker from a local dealer. It has been a great car.

By the way...later that year Judy got a Dream Machine ticket and won Delta Airline tickets to anywhere in the US. In the summer of 1991 Judy and Phil used the tickets to go to Disneyworld in Florida!

God's Providence - We believe this whole incident shows that God provides and that he also has a sense of humor. In May we had just sold our Oldsmobile 98 Diesel for junk after the engine had blown and decided to wait and see what happened. Thank God (and Disneyland).
