- The following pictures are
from a 101st Airborne reenactment jump that was conducted on
September 18, 1999 to commemorate the largest paratrooper operation
in history, Operation Market Garden (September 17, 1944).
-
- From the ADT: "The jump
at 1100 hours, Saturday 18 Sept, was on Drop Zone B of the 506th
Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne near Son. The jump
was made in two nine man sticks with a jump altitude of 1000'
above ground level (AGL). The DZ was marked by the modern active
duty 101st Airborne Pathfinder Company from Ft Campbell, Kentucky.
Light winds, cool dense air and soft plowed fields or eight foot
high corn made for very soft landings."
-
- "A second jump at 1300
hours, Sunday 19 Sept, was on Drop Zone T of the 508th Parachute
Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, near Groesbeek. This
was a one pass sixteen man stick from 850' AGL made without pathfinder
support. Jumpmaster and Team First Sergeant Richard Wolf did
an outstanding job of getting us all on the DZ. From GO until
last man out was 13.8 seconds. Time under canopy was less than
one minute. Again, everyone performed admirably. This was the
first jump onto this DZ of any kind since 17 Sept 1944."
(Pictures of this jump are coming soon). [Note: This location is also the same
place where S/Sgt. David Rosenkrantz was killed in action 10
days after the original operation - PRR]
