2. Select appropriate content and materials to reach objectives established for a course in Family Life Education. 3. Develop teaching strategies which encourage problem solving, thinking, improved self concept and cooperation with others. 4. Review teaching materials in the area of Family Life Education and critique for effectiveness. 5. Develop a teaching unit plan in area of choice which includes a strategy for evaluation of student achievement of course goals. 6. Incorporate strategies for teaching adults and students with disabilities and/or diverse learning styles. Tentative Schedule Meeting 1 Introduction: communication and teaching Meeting 2 Multiple intelligences and teaching strategies
Meeting 3 Self esteem, self concept Meeting 4 SCANS Competencies/Teaching Strategies
Meeting 5 Relationships, dating Meeting 6 Education Programs for special populations Meeting 7 Family Life Education Programs - older adults, parenting child care, life skills, careers Meeting 8 Class presentations Meeting 9 Class presentations Meeting 10 Final charrette Assignments 1. Research presented on class topics to be discussed (5 required). May be from books, magazines, professional journals or interviews. Another possibility is to arrange for a speaker to come to class. (5 presentations @ 25 pts = 125 pts). 2. Teach one lesson in the area of Family Life Education to class (lesson @ 17 pts = 75 pts). 3. Develop a unit plan (2-3 weeks) or a Learning Activity Package in one area of Family Life Education (i.e. parenting, human sexuality, older adults, disabled students, students with a variety of learning styles) and provide copies for other class members (one unit plan at 175 prt + oral presentation @ 25 pts = 200 pts).
