Pomona,
students and community members may gain
the certification required to teach
in
Adult
and
Vocational
Education
programs in California -
The Designated Subjects Teaching
Credential.
The Designated Subjects credential in Adult Education is issued to individuals who meet required: education, work experience and/or training in academic or non-academic subject categories. |

Including English as a Second Language, Elementary and Secondary Skills, (includes basic education - grades one through eight; arithmetic; reading; individualized high school learning lab/G.E.D./contract class settings; citizenship) a language other than English, fine arts, life science, mathematics, physical science or social sciences, the candidate must have a bachelor's or higher degree with required courses in the area to be taught and pass the California Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST). |
Including categories of vocational education, adults with disabilities, health and safety, home economics, older adults, and parent education, candidates must verify five years of work experience in the area to be taught and a high school diploma but are exempt for the CBEST requirement. |

| The Designated Subjects credential in Vocational Education is issued to individuals who meet the required work experience in one or more of the vocational categories designated by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC). The credential is issued at the time of the submission of the completed application packet. | |

Designated Subjects credential courses for Level I and Level II are offered through the regular university at Cal Poly Pomona for enrolled students, or in short, workshop format through the College of the Extended University each summer.
