2008/2009 CALIFORNIA PRE-DOCTORAL PROGRAM FOR UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS IN THE CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY

The California Pre-Doctoral Program is designed to increase the diversity of the pool from which the California State University draws its faculty. It does so by supporting the doctoral aspirations of CSU students who have experienced economic and educational disadvantages. A special emphasis is placed on increasing the number of CSU students who enter graduate programs at one of the University of California campuses.

Each of the applicants selected will be designated a Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Scholar and will work closely with a CSU faculty sponsor to develop an overall plan which leads ultimately to enrollment in a doctoral program. The program also provides:

  • Travel funds for the student and faculty sponsor to visit U.S. doctoral-granting institutions and/or attend a professional meeting appropriate to the student's development.
  • Funds for other related activities, such as student membership in professional organizations and subscriptions to journals, graduate school application and test fees, GRE preparation, and the most of minor research materials.
  • A Summer Research Intership opportunity at a University of California campus or other major research university, fully funded by the Pre-Doctoral Program, so that the Scholar can participate in doctoral-level research.

Questions and requests for applications should be directed to Charlene Saunders, Office of Research & Graduate Studies at (909)869-2955, Bldg. 1, Room 225A. Applications may also be downloaded from the CSU website . Applications will be available at the CSU website on December 3, 2007. No direct submission through the web is possible. All completed applications must be submitted to the Office of Research and Graduate Studies, Bldg. 1, Room 225A by Wednesday, April 2, 2008).

2007 SCCUR - SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CONFERENCE FOR UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH

The Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR) 14th Annual Conference will be held November 17, 2007 at California State University, Los Angeles. Its purpose is to provide a forum for the presentation and discussion of the best research, scholarship and creative work of undergraduates in the region, and to encourage excellence in undergraduate achievement.

Students apply to present their work by submitting a proposal in the form of a brief abstract. The deadline for submission of the abstract is Friday, October 5, 2007.

This year, students must submit an abstract and receive an acceptance before registering to attend. THE WEBSITE IS ACCEPTING ABSTRACTS AND THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS IS FRI., OCT. 5, 2007.   Students should discuss their presentation with their research mentor, and then go to the website at:  http://sccur.calstatela.edu/ to submit an abstract. Click on Abstract Submissions.   Be sure to indicate that the student is with Cal Poly Pomona.  They will  need to save their abstract in a file before  beginning the submission process.  They must complete the entire abstract submission form, including equipment needs.  If they are planning a poster, please note that the display boards are 40" x 60".  This means that our 4' x 4' posters won't fit perfectly on the display board, but they  should still be able to exhibit them.  If they are creating a new poster for this conference, they should keep the dimensions in mind.

After your abstract is accepted, they will receive a confirmation code, which they must use when registering.   The Registration website is not up yet as they are awaiting submission of abstracts.   Regististration deadline is Monday, October 29, 2007.
