Adapted Physical Education Specialist Credential - Standards of Program Quality

Directions for Determination of Candidate Competence

Welcome to the final stages of credentialing in adapted physical education at Cal Poly Pomona. The purpose of the portfolio is to provide all candidates with an opportunity to demonstrate proof of the competency in each of the adapted physical education standards. It is your responsibility to prepare your portfolio in a professional manner; i.e. content, presentation, format, appeal, and completeness. You have already completed most of the requirements in this portfolio, it is now a matter of documenting and displaying them. Good Luck and Best Wishes.

  1. Graduates from Cal Poly Pomona should follow the Policies and Procedures for Kinesiology Majors with a Pedagogy Option, single subject physical education credential.
  2. When compiling the portfolio, it is best to have two: one for single subject physical education subject matter competency and another for adapted physical education standards of program quality competence. Please note that the contents of each portfolio is different, although there are some similarities, each has different standards to meet for candidate competence. You may include Xerox copies of duplicate information that was included in the single subject physical education portfolio.
  3. Prior to turning in your adapted physical education portfolio, complete the “Self Report of Perceived Competence” and “Portfolio Documentation” forms. Include these at the front of your portfolio. (A copy can be found on the web site of Dr. Vetter: www.csupomona.edu/~pvetter/
  4. The Adapted Physical Education Coordinator will review your portfolio, using the “Portfolio Evaluation” form. Refer to that form for the rubric and the score needed to pass.
  5. Upon passing the portfolio evaluation, set up an hour interview with the Adapted Physical Education Coordinator. This exit interview will consist of the student presentation of their portfolio, followed by questions.
  6. Candidates will be notified immediately of their passage.
    A)  Passing the exit interview will advance the candidate into the final credential process of completing the necessary paperwork with the Cal Poly Pomona Credential Office.
    B)  Failing the exit interview requires the candidate to schedule a retake of the interview within two weeks. Between the two interviews the candidate must be mentored by the Adapted Physical Education Coordinator.
    C)  This process is not meant to fail any viable candidate, therefore, it is anticipated that all candidates will pass the exit interview the second time.
