Provost’s Awards for Excellence In Teaching, Service, and Scholarly and Creative Activities

Purpose of Awards

The purpose of the Provost’s Awards for Excellence is to recognize outstanding faculty accomplishments in the areas of Teaching, Service, and Scholarly and Creative Activities. Specific criteria for these awards have been established and are on this website.

The Awards

The Provost’s Awards for Excellence will include:

  1. A cash award of $5,000 for the Award for: Excellence in Teaching;
  2. A cash award of $3,000 for the Award for: Excellence in Service;
  3. A cash award of $3,000 for the Award for: Excellence in Scholarship and Creative Activity;
  4. A plaque for the recipient;
  5. Inscription of the award recipient’s name on a plaque in the University Library;
  6. Posting of the award recipient’s name and biography on a website maintained by the Division of Academic Affairs;
  7. Placement of a letter noting the award in the recipient’s Personnel Action File.

Curriculum Vitae and Letters of Support

To facilitate a fair and equitable selection process it is required that the curriculum vitae and letters of support be submitted on forms developed by the PASC. It will be the responsibility of the nominator and/or the nominee to provide this information on the forms and in conformity with the specified length, content and format. No additional versions of a vitae will be considered and no more than three letters of support will be considered.

Provost’s Awards Selection Committee (PASC)

The committee for the Provost’s Awards for Excellence shall be selected by the Executive Committee of the Academic Senate at the beginning of the fall quarter of each academic year. The selection committee shall have a minimum of one member from each of the eight colleges and one member from the related area constituency (librarians, counselors, and coaches). The chair of the committee shall be elected by majority vote of the membership. The AVP for Academic Programs shall serve as a voting member in an ex-officio capacity on the selection committee for the awards for Service and Teaching and the AVP for Research shall serve as a voting member in an ex-officio capacity on the selection committee for the awards for Scholarship and Creative Activity. Former awardees will be encouraged to serve on the Committee.
