Cal Poly Pomona's President's Council is a membership society of university friends and civic and corporate leaders who have the vision to recognize that support of public higher education is important to the future of our community and the nation. They believe in the value of education, appreciate the rich legacy of Cal Poly Pomona, and share a commitment to ensuring the university's future success. They further support Cal Poly Pomona's mission to advance knowledge and prepare students for lifelong learning, leadership and careers in a changing, multicultural world.
The President's Council serves as an executive-level advisory group to the President. Member's experiences, expertise and views provide invaluable input to the shape and direction of the university and its many programs. Members of this prestigious group serve as the university's ambassadors of good will, promoting the ideals of higher education in general and specifically the interests of Cal Poly Pomona.
Through member contributions and support, the Council provides the major source of discretionary resources to the Office of the President. This enables the President to enhance the educational experience of students, provide supplementary support for faculty research and scholarship, improve educational programs, contribute to university outreach efforts and recognize outstanding student achievements.
Programs Supported by the President's Council include the following:
This program honors outstanding Cal Poly Pomona upper division students by presenting them with a significant scholarship and providing opportunities to interact with the President and members of the President's Council.
The Council provides supplementary funding to support research and scholarships, augmenting major areas in the direct need of additional financial support.
Key legislators, trustees and dignitaries are often brought to campus to visit with faculty, staff and students and learn more about the university's mission.
This enables the President to direct resources to projects, issues or needs at his discretion.
Membership on the President's Council is extended by invitation to those demonstrating a personal and financial commitment to fulfilling the Council's objectives. Members are typically business and community leaders who have excelled in their professional fields and who have demonstrated a record of public service. There are three levels of membership, each with a portfolio of benefits:
Many President's Council members gladly support critical university needs without concern for personal benefit. The opportunity to leave a legacy of achievement and support is considered the real membership benefit, as well as interacting with other business and community leaders in an exclusive setting.
