Assignment
Arrive at the Hsi Lai temple at 10:15a.m. Report to instructor at the front balcony of the temple.
The tour will begin at 10:30 a.m. sharp. We should end the tour by 11:30. Those planning to leave may do so; others may
wish to stay for lunch at the temple cafeteria.
Work together with your team as you move from one
stage of the assignment to the next.
Please observe the greatest respect at all times while on the premises. Do not talk loudly
or act frivolously. Please dress appropriately--no shorts, tank tops or revealing outfits. Wear comfortable shoes as you will have do some walking.
Remember at all times that this is an active place of prayer and meditation.
Should you encounter a nun or monk the appropriate manner of greeting is to place your hands together,
bow slightly and say: "o mei do fu." Find out what this phrase means.
Before the field trip, make sure you have a map of the temple and a clear idea of all the areas you
have been assigned to visit. At each location, there are signs to help you identify the
unique features. On returning home or to campus you should use the references to help you.
