
This is a general scholarship available to all students and majors in our department. Submitting an application will potentially qualify you for a number of memorial scholarships and various other awards. Applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee within the Department and awards are based on overall academic standing, essay merit, and outside activities. The University of California Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources administers the Bill and Jane Fischer Scholarship. This scholarship fund was established by friends and family on the occasion of University of California Cooperative Extension Advisor Bill Fischer’s retirement. During his 37-year career, Fisher specialized in weed control. The Bill and Jane Fischer Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000 to students (preference given to graduate students) pursuing degrees in vegetation management or weed science at any accredited California University. Students should demonstrate a strong interest in a vegetation management (weed control) career. Preference will be given to graduate students. Applications must be postmarked or submitted online no later than June 30, 2008.
This scholarship is awarded by the International Plant Propagators' Society Western Region. The scholarship pays for students to attend (registration and accommodations) the annual IPP meeting held in the Western Region. Street Tree Seminar, Inc. is an organization dedicated to the development, health care and management of street trees in rural and urban areas within southern California. Applicant must be a current student carrying a minimum of 12.0 units majoring in the Arboriculture, Horticulture, or Natural Sciences field, with a keen interest in pursuing a career in Arboriculture/Urban Forestry. Scholarship amount is for $500.00-$1,500.00. Application deadline is November 1, oral interviews November 12, and announcement of award November 17. Scholarship awards will be presented at the December meeting of Street Tree Seminar - recipients must attend to receive award. Selection criteria include GPA, academic and community involvement, experience and professional involvement, essay for publication, letter from advisor, need for financial assistance, oral interview.
