Why Become a Physics and Astronomy Learning Assistant?
Homeyra Sadaghiani, Alexander Rudolph, and Steve McCauley
Department of Physics and Astronomy, Cal Poly Pomona
Learning Assistants (LAs) are undergraduates who are hired to facilitate small-group interaction in our large-enrollment courses, recitations, or labs. LAs are paid a modest stipend (~$1,000/quarter) to work about 8 hours per week in various aspects of course transformation. LAs who decide to pursue a K-12 teaching credentials are eligible to apply to Cal Poly Pomona Noyce Program (Scholarship up to for $10,000)
The LA experience is valuable for students who continue on to any career; however, our program is specifically designed to recruit undergraduate students to careers in high school physics teaching.
Refreshments at 10:50 AM. Seminar begins at 11:00 AM.
