Unconventional superconductivity in the Filled Skutterudite Compound PrOs4Sb12 and the Related Doping Study in the Pr1-xNdxOs4Sb12 System

Superconductivity found in the filled skutterudite compound PrOs4Sb12 develops out of a nonmagnetic heavy Fermi liquid below a transition temperature Tc = 1.85 K. A high field ordered phase (HFOP), identified as an antiferroquadrupolar ordering, occurs near the superconducting phase. This suggests that the superconductivity may occur in the vicinity of a quadrupolar quantum critical point in PrOs4Sb12. In addition, experimental evidence indicates that point nodes appear in the superconducting energy gap and that an internal magnetic field exists in the superconducting state, which implies that the superconducting pairing in PrOs4Sb12 is spin-triplet (odd parity). In order to investigate the effect of ferromagnetism on the unconventional superconductivity and the HFOP of PrOs4Sb12, substitution study in the pseudoternary systems Pr1-xNdxOs4Sb12 has been employed. Intriguing coexistence of superconductivity and ferromagnetism and abnormal screening of the Nd magnetic moment has been found.
