Fish in a Pond: String Theory in a Nutshell
Vatche Sahakian
Harvey Mudd College
String theory purports to provide a unifying fundamental framework of all the physical laws. In recent years however, we have realized that the theory provides for numerous vacua - many scaffolding solutions to the same all-encompassing equations. Each of these solutions is a universe on its own. This picture is now popularly referred to as the Multiverse. It quickly leads to a serious crisis that some have tried to address by evoking the anthropic principle. I will give a brief overview of string theory and the implications of the multiverse picture.
Refreshments at 11:00 AM. Seminar begins at 11:10 AM.
