A Practical Guide to Your First Year of Grad School
Gregory Cohoon *
University of Arizona, College of Optical Sciences
After applications are in, acceptances are out, and you've chosen the school for you the hard part begins. During orientation you are hopefully given all the information you would ever need to make it in grad school, but this is never the case. As a recent graduate from Cal Poly Pomona, I hope to give some insight of what to expect during your first year of graduate studies and to share some of my personal experiences with choosing classes, finding funding, doing research, and maintaining a small degree of social sanity among other things. After the presentation there will be a Q&A session to answer your specific questions.
