Physics and Industry in 21st Century

Research directions in physics have been experiencing a transformation that began in the latter part of the 20th century, and continues in force in the 21st century. The traditional view of physics, the fundamental science that addresses questions about how the laws of nature work is now extended to encompass the question how the laws of nature may be used to manipulate natural phenomena. This latter approach fuels the engine of technology, which in turn is directly impacting cultural and social evolution in the 21st century. I will address this issue and provide examples that better define how research directions in physics are expanding with regards to technology.
