Student mathematical and conceptual difficulties in learning quantum mechanics

Over the past twenty years, Physics Education Research (PER) has changed our view of student learning in the traditional introductory courses. Although most PER research has focused on student difficulties in understanding introductory physics, research shows similar difficulties exist in more advanced physics topics. In this talk, I will discuss examples of student common difficulties in understanding quantum mechanics with a focus on quantum wavefunctions and probability.
