The Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012 (Tax Relief Act of 2012), signed into law by President Obama on February 22, 2012, extends the temporary reduction of the employee Social Security contribution rate from 6.2 percent to 4.2 percent for pay issued through December 31, 2012. The November 2012 payroll (issue dated December 1, 2012) will be the last warrants issued at the reduced Social Security employee contribution rate, unless further legislation is enacted.
