Universal Design: What Staff Needs to Know

Workshop Facilitator: Dr. Catherine Schmitt Whitaker
Director, Disability Resource Center
Date: Wednesday May 9, 2007
Location: CLA building 98, room B1-31

Time: 1:00 - 2:30 p.m.

With an eye to the future, all educators must develop programs/presentations that are accessible to individuals with disabilities.  The presenter will share the universal design concept, key factors to consider during the three presentation/program development stages (initial planning, marketing and registration, and during the event), and suggest actions that can be taken individually and collectively to create an inclusive learning environment.  A case study will enable participants to apply their learning and assess best practices.

This workshop is intended for any staff or MPP who creates presentations or assists those who create presentations (including planning, logistics, etc.).  Attendance is strongly recommended to all those who develop presentations or work for someone who does.

Types of programs and presentations include:

  • Meetings
  • Presentations
  • Conferences
  • Career/major/wellness fairs

  • Club and organization activities
