| Principal
research interests over the course of my career include international
communications media, national and international news agencies, globalization
and the media, media economics, educational communications and educational
management.
Current
priorities have to do with globalization and media economics,
including the specific issue of the future of national and international
news agencies. In January 2001, I coordinated a workshop in Amman,
Jordan (on behalf of the United Nations Educational, Scientific
and Cultural Organization), entitled National News Agencies in
the Era of the Internet. This was mainly for the benefit of managers
of national news agencies in the developing world. I am North
American editor for the Sage journal Global Media and Communication,
whose first issue appears in Spring, 2005. I am currently working
on two books about globalization and the media, and media coverage
of the "war
on terrorism."
