Mission Statement

The Catholic Newman Club is a Catholic organization of students, faculty and staff who seek to form the Christian conscience, help members appropriate the Catholic faith, educate for justice, facilitate personal development and form leaders for the future.

About Newman

The Catholic Newman Club is named after Cardinal John Henry Newman, a man who searched for the truth and intellectual order, and lived his life consequentially. The Newman Club seeks to encourage its members to search for the truth and meaning throughout their lives; thereby gaining the joy that comes from discovering the truth, which comes with reason. "The human spirit must be cultivated in such a way that there results a growth in its ability to wonder, to understand, to contemplate, to make personal judgements, and to develop a moral and social sense".

President - Adriana Kraig (kraigadriana@gmail.com)

Adriana Kraig

I am a Pure Math and Psychology double major. I have been studying here since the fall of '09. Some of my hobbies keep me sane though. I spend a lot of my free time dancing and playing the piano. I have the very useful talent of being able to multitask a lot of things. I think my favorite bible quote is "No trial has come to you but what is human. God is faithful and will not let you be tried beyond your strength; but with the trial he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to bear it. -1 Corinthians 10:12-13". If you have general club questions or do not know who to contact, email me!

Vice President - Austin Miller (acrtechtulare@gmail.com)

Austin Miller

I am studying to become an aerospace engineer. I began pursuing my degree in Fall of 2011. On my spare time I like to work on my car and hang out with friends. I also like to run and I compete in Cross Country and Track. My favorite verse is 1 Sirach 27:30-28:7. I am always looking for help with flyers, so if you're interested in an active role in the club please contact me at my email address listed above!

Secretary - Sonia Fracasso (wcrelsf@comcast.net)

Sonia Fracasso

My name is Sonia; I am from the Bay Area. I am a Theater major tech option. I started at Cal Poly in the fall of 2011 as an Architecture major, and made the switch to Theater in the winter quarter of 2013. I love hanging out with my friends and family. I love sports, especially soccer. Being outdoors and enjoying nature is always something that I love to do. Designing and anything artistic has always been a passion for me. My favorite Prayer is the Serenity Prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

Treasurer - Michelle Yang (mkyang@csupomona.edu)

Michelle Yang

I am a fourth year (and Senior) Math major with Pure/Secondary Teaching option. I was born and raised in San Diego where I attended Catholic Private School my whole educational career. I moved to Cal Poly Pomona for my Freshman year in Fall 2009 where I lived in the halls then in Fall 2010 I moved to the Suites where I continue to reside during the school years. I have been a Newman Club Officer since Fall 2010, starting as Social Chair/Events Coordinator, then President 2011-2012 and I am now Treasurer 2012-2013! I will be graduating this July 16th. I enjoy swimming, knitting, reading and cooking/baking among other things. Most people find it interesting that I have allergies to: hot dogs, green apples and artificial sweeteners. My favorite Bible verse is ever-changing, but one that is commonly on my mind is from Romans: If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Romans 8:31 because it reminds me that no matter what I am going through, God is on my side and I can always turn to him for help and he will provide. Feel free to contact me about anything, including if you would like to represent our club at SIC meetings on Fridays at 3pm-5pm.

Spiritual Chair - Beatrice Michael (bcmichael@csupomona.edu)

Beatrice Michael

I'm a Food Science & Technology major and I started in Fall 2012. I like to dance, read, listen to music and even though i'm not so good I like to sing too! Last summer I visited the world's tallest tower in Dubai and it was incredible! My favorite Bible verse is "Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door will be opened". This verse is particularly inspiring because at times of despair it has uplifted me.
