The mouse Peripheral Cannabinoid (CB2) Receptor is encoded in Chromosome 4 in a single gene 1.1 Kb in length. The CB2 receptor knockout mouse has a disrupted CB2 receptor gene in which 341 bp from the 3' end are missing. This region of DNA codes for the carboxy terminus of the protein corresponding to intracellular loop 3 and transmembrane regions 6 and 7.

The CB2 receptor knockout mice are phenotypically undistinguishable from their wild type counterparts.
