Rene TrevinoArchitect Rene Trevino is a 1978 graduate from the School of Environmental Design (Architecture) Cal Poly Pomona and currently has his own firm in Poway California as a licensed Architect. Recently retired from serving 31 years with the United States Navy as a distinguished civilian employee where he served in numerous leadership positions. His last position was as the Executive Director for Navy Region Southwest where he was responsible for overseeing a nearly one billion dollar base operating budget for Naval installations located in the Southwest United States, over 10 major installations in all.  During his laudable service to the federal government Mr. Trevino has received the Superior Civilian Service Award, one by the Commander Navy Installations Command and one by the Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet and the Meritorious Civilian Service award by the Commander Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet. 

Mr. Trevino has played a significant role in implementing measures that he views are simple and practical and that advance the directive of cost efficiency and sustainability in managing more that 40 million square feet of facilities. The methods have been so successful that many were implemented throughout the Navy. This is the expertise he desires to bring to the NDC as the university moves towards its goals of climate neutrality. He is interested in tying the university’s commitment to be “green” to actual projects that will lead to a completely sustainable campus.

Mr. Trevino is a registered architect In California and a member of the American Institute of Architects he is a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and belongs to the Society of American Military Engineers.

While his work mission is to achieve sustainability, he describes his personal mission as the “Five F’s”: Faith, Family, Fun; and Finances which lead to Freedom. He and his wife of 32 years Carla reside in Poway, California.
