David Perez (Dave)
City of Industry, California, Former Mayor
The Honorable David Perez has a long association
with the City of Industry: he is the former mayor of
the city his father helped create in 1957. The City of
Industry represents a multi-billion dollar primary
impact in California’s Inland Empire Industrial Corridor.
Prior to being appointed mayor, Perez served on the
executive board of the City of Industry’s Industrial
Manufacturing Council for eight years. The IMC brings
together City of Industry manufacturers and businesses
in a unique community organization designed to solve
industrial, governmental and community problems at
the local level. Perez also serves as president of Valley
Vista Services, a corporation involved in commercial
and residential waste disposal and recycling.
Boasting nearly 3,000 businesses employing more than 80,000 people in mostly math and sciencebased positions, the City of Industry has a vested interest in developing strong ties with area schools and universities and improving all levels of education. Perez led the City of Industry to Cal Poly Pomona and Science IMPACT (Institute for Modern Pedagogy and Creative Teaching). This program helps K-12 grade schoolchildren throughout the region advance their core math and science skills. The city has also provided scholarships to send dozens of local teachers to Cal Poly Pomona to receive additional credentialing.
To recognize the positive contributions and ongoing involvement with the university and area education, Cal Poly Pomona recognized the City of Industry with its Distinguished Community Partner Award at Founders’ Celebration in 2002.
Perez and his wife, Shirley, live in the City of Industry — of course.
