Arthur J. Ludwick (Art)
Philanthropist
Arthur Ludwick has been a member of the
President’s Council at Cal Poly Pomona since 1983
and is a generous donor to the university as well.
Ludwick believes in supporting the university and
sees his involvement as an investment in people’s
lives and in the future. In partnership with the
Rain Bird Corporation, he was instrumental in the
development of BioTrek, a research and educational
facility on campus with three learning centers. Rain
Bird, a privately held company founded in 1933
and committed to The Intelligent Use of Water™, is
the leading manufacturer and provider of irrigation
products and services. Ludwick held positions at Rain
Bird as chief financial officer and senior vice president,
as well as assistant to the president, before retiring to
devote more time to charitable activities.
He is a director of the Los Angeles County Fair Association, an organization he joined in 1990; serves on the boards of the Rain Bird Corporation and Citrus Valley Health Partners; is a member of the Glendora Kiwanis; and is chairman emeritus of the Foothill Hospital Foundation. Along with his wife, Sarah, Ludwick is a founder of the Ludwick Family Foundation and one of its programs: Arsalyn, a non-partisan program that promotes youth civic and political engagement.
A native of San Luis Obispo, California, Ludwick graduated from Stanford University with a bachelor’s in civil engineering and a master’s in civil engineering administration. He and Sarah have three children, Sharon, Heidi and Erik, and live in Glendora. His hobbies include wine and coin collecting, and he is a train enthusiast.
