Joseph L. Guerra
Sequoia Golf Holdings, President & CEO
While Joe Guerra ('82) was earning his business
degree at Cal Poly Pomona, he was too busy to hit the
course and swing a golf club. As founder, president and
CEO of Georgia-based Sequoia Golf Holdings, which
owns a portfolio of country clubs that includes 43
properties, it is Guerra's job to know his way around the
links. He now plays to a single-digit handicap.
Guerra became interested in the real estate business as a young teen and chose Cal Poly Pomona because of its excellent real estate program and the practical education it offers. He especially respected Professor Emeritus David L. Parry, who treated his students as if they were already real estate developers.
After graduation, Guerra worked in the real estate industry before being named co-president and CEO of Santa Monica-based American Golf Corp.
His next career move led him to Georgia, a state known for its golf courses, golf enthusiasts and, of course, the Masters Tournament in Augusta. There, Guerra founded Sequoia Golf Holdings, which developed an innovative platform that allows clients to pay one fee to access the company's entire portfolio of golf courses and other amenities.
Guerra is also involved with charitable organizations, serving as past president of the Flint River Council of The Boy Scouts of America and the Georgia Golf Course Owners Association. He is currently on the board of the Atlanta Metro YMCA and the Georgia State Golf Foundation. He and his wife, Amy, reside in Newnan, Ga. and have four children.
