Steven P.Cesinger (Steve)
Valor Investment Partners, Co-Founder & Managing Partner
Steven Cesinger’s rise to success began with inspiration from his father who suggested accounting as the foundation for an investment-banking career. Cesinger chose Cal Poly Pomona’s top-ranked accounting program, from which he graduated summa cum laude in 1984, as the first step toward following his father’s advice. He next earned an MBA from UCLA’s Graduate School of Management and graduated in the top two percent of his class.
Topping $1 billion in managed investments and financings, Cesinger has distinguished himself in his field by following his father’s advice. He is a managing partner of Valor Investment Partners, a private investment firm with offices in Atlanta and Los Angeles. He recently co-founded Valor with Phil Otero, a fellow Cal Poly Pomona alumnus. A certified public accountant and an expert in corporate finance and investment banking, Cesinger was inducted into the Cal Poly Pomona Accounting Hall of Fame in 2000.
Cesinger believes that the business fundamentals he grasped while at Cal Poly Pomona have played a major role in his success, which has led him to give generously to the university. Among his contributions are scholarship endowments, one honoring his mother and another for a favorite professor. A renewable fellowship he established supports faculty excellence. Through the NDC, he hopes to use his knowledge of real estate development and finance to promote growth in the local economy and generate funds for university initiatives.
Finance and philanthropy may dominate his time, but he is also a wine enthusiast. He and his wife, Janna, share a love of the outdoors: she through gardening and he through cycling. They live in Atlanta, Georgia, with their daughter, Monica, and their son, Hunter.
